This internship offers hands‑on experience in a professional spaceflight laboratory, working with experienced test engineers on flight and proto‑flight hardware for LEO‑class spacecraft. The intern will engage in electrical functional testing, environmental test monitoring (TVAC & vibration), data analysis, and documentation, while learning space‑grade engineering discipline and safety practices. Job Title/High-Level Position Summary: As an Engineering manager your responsibilities will include leading and supervising engineering teams, developing and implementing engineering plans and procedures, performing and overseeing detailed designs and product verification and validation, inspecting and troubleshooting components and systems, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. The Senior Director, Facilities and Engineering is responsible for the building and equipment and system performance of a cGMP manufacturing facility. The Senior Director leads, manages, and coaches engineering, validation, maintenance, and capital project staff to ensure equipment and systems are designed, installed, and consistently perform as intended when needed. S/He monitors equipment work orders, change controls, qualification status, and readiness. Manages facility and engineering processes associated with new product introductions. The Senior Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, methods, and procedures for new and existing facilities and equipment. The Senior Director works to ensure alignment and coordinates with other site functions such as Finance, Manufacturing, MS&T, QC Analytical/Laboratories, and Quality Assurance. Leads efforts of the organization across functional boundaries and works with peers across a matrixed organization. Represents the functional area to clients, auditors, and inspectors. Oversees engineering support for multiple systems, processes, or areas. Develops subject matter experts in several areas. Applies advanced approaches to develop and implement strategies, technologies, or other major improvements. Directs, reviews, and approves engineering documents. Support monthly reports covering overall status, key issues, and performance KPI's. Oversees multiple capital projects and operational improvement projects, DEVs, CAPAs, and/or Change Controls while ensuring their success in meeting their respective objectives. Represent the Facilities & Engineering activities during client audits and regulatory inspections. Ensures engineering, maintenance, and calibration procedures and systems are in a state of compliance and control. Establish and maintain a system of metrics and reporting to evaluate the effectiveness of facility and maintenance activities. A broad understanding of applicable codes, and in depth working knowledge of cGMP requirements and regulations. AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Electrical & Electronics Engineering Intern for the 2026 Summer Internship Program to support testing and verification activities for spacecraft propulsion and power subsystems.

This internship offers hands‑on experience in a professional spaceflight laboratory, working with experienced test engineers on flight and proto‑flight hardware for LEO‑class spacecraft. The intern will engage in electrical functional testing, environmental test monitoring (TVAC & vibration), data analysis, and documentation, while learning space‑grade engineering discipline and safety practices.

This is a 12-week internship beginning 6/1/2026 at our Homestead, FL location. To be considered for the internship you must be enrolled in the following semester. If you are a recent graduate, please apply to one of our full-time roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support execution of electrical test procedures under supervision
  • Perform voltage, current, and continuity measurements
  • Assist in functional testing of propulsion and power electronics
  • Monitor telemetry during environmental testing (TVAC and vibration)
  • Record, organize, and analyze test data
  • Assist in anomaly documentation and troubleshooting activities
  • Support test readiness reviews and configuration verification
  • Contribute to improvements in test automation or data visualization tools

Qualifications

Education:

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrical & Computer Engineering
  • Physics (Electronics Focus)
  • Mechatronics or related field

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required
  • Prior lab, project‑based, or academic hardware experience is beneficial but not required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework in power electronics or control systems
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW
  • Interest in spacecraft systems, propulsion, or power electronics
  • Prior lab experience or hands‑on hardware project work

Soft Skills:

  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross‑functional teams
  • Analytical thinking and problem‑solving mindset
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to learn quickly in a structured engineering environment

Technology Stack:

  • Multimeters, oscilloscopes, and standard lab instrumentation
  • Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW (preferred)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and block diagrams

  • Familiarity with power electronics or control systems (preferred)
