Job Description: The role: We are seeking a highly experienced Director of R&D Engineering to lead the research and development of innovative aesthetic medical devices. The ideal candidate will drive technology innovation, product development, and regulatory compliance while leading a multidisciplinary engineering team. This role requires a strong background in aesthetic technologies, medical device development, regulatory knowledge, and leadership in bringing products from concept to commercialization. Candidate must have extensive and current experience in the aesthetic and dermatologic industry. The position is based in Long Beach, California, and is a Hybrid role, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home days. What you'll do: Primary Responsibilities: Develops and executes the R&D strategy aligned with business objectives and market needs. Leads and mentors a team of engineers and scientists in the development of next-generation aesthetic medical devices. Fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. Oversees the complete product development lifecycle from concept through design, prototyping, validation, and commercialization. Leads the design and development of cutting-edge technologies while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Identifies emerging trends, technologies, and industry advancements to maintain a competitive edge. Ensures all R&D activities comply with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and other relevant standards. Collaborates closely with regulatory affairs and quality teams to support documentation, testing, and submissions. Develops and implements risk management strategies in accordance with ISO 14971 and other safety standards. Partners with marketing, clinical, and operations teams to align product development with market needs. Collaborates with manufacturing teams to ensure scalable, cost-effective production processes. Engages with external research institutions, partners, and suppliers to drive innovation. Performs other duties as assigned. What you need to know: Experience/Skills/Education: Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. PhD preferred. 10+ years of experience in R&D, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the medical device industry (preferably aesthetic or dermatological devices). Proven track record of leading successful product development from concept to commercialization. In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and other industry standards. Strong background in systems engineering, optics, lasers, RF, ultrasound, or other aesthetic device technologies. Experience with risk management, clinical validation, and regulatory submissions. Primary Responsibilities HDR is currently in need of a Civil Engineering Lead for Its Dam and Civil Works program supporting S. California. This Civil Lead will fill a strategic role responsible for leading and managing multi-discipline analysis and design of complex structures within HDR's growing dam, levee, and civil works program. A track record in applying multi-discipline coordination including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and hydraulic engineering is a plus. As the Civil Lead, the individual will also provide project management and mentoring to their hand-picked team of supporting civil engineers and designers. Civil design analysis and technical project execution responsibilities will include project design development including project planning, scheduling, planning studies and evaluations, and preparation of final design analysis. Projects may include various aspects of dam, spillway, outlet works, storm water management systems and other critical structures subject to hydraulic and earthquake forces. Position will support project delivery activities through delivery of high-quality services and technological development. Previous experience or familiarity with State Dam Safety, US Bureau of Reclamation, US Army Corps of Engineers and/or FERC regulated projects and standards is a plus. The role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of R&D Engineering to lead the research and development of innovative aesthetic medical devices. The ideal candidate will drive technology innovation, product development, and regulatory compliance while leading a multidisciplinary engineering team. This role requires a strong background in aesthetic technologies, medical device development, regulatory knowledge, and leadership in bringing products from concept to commercialization. Candidate must have extensive and current experience in the aesthetic and dermatologic industry.

The position is based in Long Beach, California, and is a Hybrid role, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home days.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes the R&D strategy aligned with business objectives and market needs.

  • Leads and mentors a team of engineers and scientists in the development of next-generation aesthetic medical devices.

  • Oversees the complete product development lifecycle from concept through design, prototyping, validation, and commercialization.

  • Partners with marketing, clinical, and operations teams to align product development with market needs.

What you need to know:

Experience/Skills/Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. PhD preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in R&D, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the medical device industry (preferably aesthetic or dermatological devices).

  • Proven track record of leading successful product development from concept to commercialization.

  • In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and other industry standards.

  • Strong background in systems engineering, optics, lasers, RF, ultrasound, or other aesthetic device technologies.

  • Experience with risk management, clinical validation, and regulatory submissions.

  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
