Sound & Vibration/Acoustic Engineering Intern

Noise Control Engineering, LLC (NCE) is a leading engineering consulting firm specializing in marine and industrial noise and vibration control. Our work includes prediction and measurement of acoustic environments as we assist our clients to identify effective control strategies to meet mission objectives. We are proud to support our government, commercial marine, and industrial clients to solve a wide range of acoustical problems. NCE is seeking a motivated Summer Intern with an interest in finite element analysis, structural dynamics, and experimental vibration testing.

Job responsibilities:

• Use FEMAP and Simcenter NASTRAN to support noise and vibration analyses.
• Assist with vibration testing and experimental modal analysis (EMA).
• Support test setup, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
• Process and interpret test data with engineering staff.
• Assist with technical reports and documentation.
• Gain exposure to Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA).
• Participate in field assignments at client sites.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Coursework or strong interest in vibration, dynamics, acoustics, or structural analysis.
• Familiarity with finite element analysis concepts.
• Interest in or introductory experience with experimental modal analysis.
• Based on government project restrictions, applicants must be a US Citizen to comply with requirements.
• Ability to travel throughout New England; occasional U.S. travel possible.
• Valid driver's license required for some assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with FEMAP and Simcenter NASTRAN (coursework or projects)
• Familiarity with Siemens TestLab
• Experience with National Instruments hardware or software (DAQ, LabVIEW)
• MATLAB or Python for data analysis
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work in both office and field environments
