This group provides support of state and federal environmental regulations, permits siting, licensing/relicensing for groundwater and coal ash related work throughout the Carolinas. This co-op may also work on groundwater remediation projects and groundwater monitoring projects. Preferred Majors: Civil, Environmental, Chemical Nuclear- Duke Energy operates 11 nuclear reactors across six plants throughout the Carolinas. The mission of Duke Energy Nuclear Generation is to generate clean, life-essential electricity around-the-clock to power the lives of our communities. Current projects are underway to uprate our existing fleet, move reactors to 24-month fuel cycles, and explore the possibilities of high enrichment and high burnup fuel. Safe, reliable operation of nuclear plants requires expertise from a variety of disciplines, including interns who are interested in supporting Duke Energy's clean energy plans. Preferred Majors: Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Nuclear Grid Strategy, Planning & Integration- Maintain distributed energy sites on the Distribution Grid (batteries and solar sites) while interfacing with Engineering, Controls, and Maintenance. Some example projects would be programming site RTACS to interface with our PII server, programming our RTACS to automate dispatch), analyzing performance data (this could be operations data from or maintenance data), or troubleshooting issues. This will provide the intern with real world experience in renewables, primarily energy storage. The Grid Planning Studies team focuses on transmission-level analysis of generator additions and modifications in Duke Energy Carolinas, Duke Energy Florida, and Duke Energy Progress. These generation resources include but are not limited to solar, battery, and natural gas sites that may range from several MW to in excess of 1 GW. In addition to developing foundational knowledge related to transmission planning activities, the intern position will provide hands-on experience with power flow tools such as PSSE and TARA. Day-to-day activities will require cross-functional collaboration across various workgroups using a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Injection Molding Engineering department, located in Pendelton, SC, is responsible for supporting and developing new and existing injection molding products. We are searching for a student pursuing a Plastics Engineering degree to support the Injection Molding Engineering team. The successful candidate will perform Robust Mold Trials on existing tools to optimize processes and support validation activities. The role will be project based as well as support for current continuous improvement activities.

This internship will run approximately from May 2026 - August 2026. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Pendleton, SC facility.

Main Objective:

To understand the process engineering role as well as partially scope and execute challenging projects that result in improvement for Arthrex.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conversion of MDS to MDM (machine to plastic variable processes).
  • Complete capability studies on plastic variable processes.
  • Work with team on floor for Engineering starts.
  • Assist in completing Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ) and Performance Qualifications (PQ).
  • Assist in completing First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.
  • Troubleshoot injection molding defects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Progress towards a college degree in Plastics Engineering Technology or related discipline required. Junior or senior preferred.

(Recent graduates must be within six months of their graduation date to qualify.)

  • Knowledge of injection molding machine interface capability required.
  • Experience with decoupled molding development required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Basic to intermediate computer skills. Be able to follow written and verbal direction.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. Fax; Scanner.
