The Manager of Structures Engineering will lead a team of talented engineers in the design, analysis, and optimization of structural components for our hypersonic aircraft. You will be responsible for guiding the team through all stages of development, and ensuring that our designs meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance. This role demands a deep understanding of structural engineering principles, advanced materials, and the unique challenges associated with hypersonic flight. Responsibilities: Lead and inspire the Structures Engineering team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance, and innovative engineering culture. Recruit, onboard, develop, and mentor engineers to ensure the team has the technical depth and execution capability required to meet aggressive program demands. Set goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide continuous coaching and technical leadership across the team. Own structural engineering execution across multiple programs from early concept through production, delivering on aggressive cost, schedule, and performance targets. Develop and manage project plans, allocate resources, and track execution against milestones while balancing competing priorities. Partner closely with aerodynamics, propulsion, systems engineering, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure fully integrated vehicle designs. Oversee the design and analysis of aircraft structural components, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. Guide the use of advanced CAD, FEA, and analytical methods to support structural design, validation, and certification efforts. Lead material selection, testing, and qualification efforts for high-temperature, high-load, and extreme operating environments. Drive continuous improvement in structural design processes, tools, and engineering methodologies. Identify and evaluate new technologies, materials, and approaches to enhance hypersonic vehicle structural performance and efficiency. Proactively identify technical and programmatic risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure robust design solutions. Resolve complex structural challenges and ensure structural integrity and reliability under extreme flight and operating conditions. Communicate effectively with engineers, program leadership, and executives to align technical decisions with program objectives. Develop and manage budgets for structural engineering efforts, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources. Requirements: Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 6 or more years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role. Extensive experience in the aerospace or defense industry. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks) and FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus). Experience with structural testing, validation, and certification processes. Proven track record in leading and managing engineering teams, with strong mentorship and coaching skills. Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource management. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. High level of initiative and utilizes a proactive approach to address challenges and opportunities. Preferred Skills and Experience: Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred). Extensive experience in the aerospace or defense industry, with a focus rockets or aircraft (preferred). $180,000 - $220,000 a year The salary information provided is a general guideline only. From functional requirement design and control system mitigation to batch design and configuration, we work in a wide range of industrial facilities to engineer solutions that eliminate production and manufacturer errors while improving site safety in the process.

This position is responsible for managing our Industrial/Utility Automation department and oversees engineers, works closely with other engineers, project managers and Client team members in support of both capital and operational improvement projects.

Primary responsibilities

  • Strategic Alignment: Hold department meetings to identify, discuss and solve department issues, convey issues to leadership, align department initiatives with company annual and/or quarterly goals. Responsible for department profit and loss.
  • People Management: lead & inspire, mentor & coach, perform talent acquisition & retention, manage personnel performance, perform regular performance reviews, develop skills within the department.
  • Project Execution: approve and monitor project budgets, assign and plan resources, monitor overall project risks throughout the department, foster lessons learned meetings and disseminate learning, engage and monitor project stakeholders.
  • Client Satisfaction & Project Sales: Regularly engage Clients to maintain relationships and communicate about systemic issues, solicit feedback from client stakeholders, proposals (scoping and estimating projects, bid/no-bid, strategy, approvals, client communication), identify and follow up on prospective project opportunities.
  • Technical Expertise: ensure department processes, procedures and instructions are up to date and utilized, provide technical direction and support, resolve technical challenges, ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) years or more of experience in automation engineering design
  • Five (5) years of combined experience in General Manufacturing, Power, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or related industry or engineering consulting
  • Five (5) years or more in a role managing engineers and technical staff

Education

  • B.S in: Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited institute.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale
