RedfinSeattle, WA
This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days. Redfin is revolutionizing the $75 billion real estate industry. We use data, beautiful software, and innovative design to put customers first at every step in the home-buying, selling, renting, and financing process. As Engineering Manager for Conversational Search, you'll lead a full-stack engineering team building Redfin's next generation artificial intelligence powered home search experience. This is one of Redfin's most ambitious and visible product initiatives for 2026. You'll oversee the development of highly visible, consumer-facing conversational UI as well as the backend systems, AI reasoning layers, and data pipelines that power natural-language search at scale. This role blends technical leadership with product collaboration: you'll guide engineers as they iterate quickly, uphold craftsmanship, and deliver stable, fast, intuitive software used by millions of homebuyers. You'll shape the team's engineering culture, drive architectural direction, and ensure we deliver world-class performance for a surface area that will become one of the most important entry points into Redfin's business. Joining this team means helping define how people search for homes in the future and leading the engineers who will bring that vision to life. Who We Are We improve how Redfin designs and builds software. Conversational Search is a new surface area with huge potential. We experiment with the latest AI technologies and UX patterns to push Redfin's experience forward and set new standards for the industry. We strive for craftsmanship in our software: Great software is stable, fast, delightful and solves a specific problem. When building and maintaining our code we hold these as top priorities. We iterate quickly but keep an eye out for one-way doors: We should quickly improve the software where we can easily reverse decisions, but proceed methodically and carefully when approaching work that would be expensive to undo. High impact and high visibility. We develop and maintain what will be one of the highest visibility pages on redfin.com. Our work will serve millions of customers daily and will be part of the most essential top of the funnel for Redfin's businesses. Full stack full ownership. We own our features from end to end. We build the pipelines to get data into databases all the way to the UI a user sees. Performance is critical. Conversational sessions generate significant engagement; our systems must meet stringent performance, reliability, and latency requirements to feel natural and intuitive. Who You Are You have 2+ years of experience as a software engineering manager, having worked on full-stack web development. Experience with React and Java preferred. You are a leader, inspiring your team to succeed and ensuring their work has impact. You partner well with your product development and design peers, with a history of delivering best-in-class software. You delight in and have built high-performing teams and mentored junior engineers into more senior positions. You have a passion for building scalable and performant applications using cutting-edge technology and diving deep into both front-end and back-end code and architecture. You are enthusiastic about and have a strong track record of developing efficient processes for the team. You operate well in the unknown, advocate for your team, aren't afraid to take risks and learn from your mistakes. When you disagree, you disagree constructively, with respect for everyone else's opinions and ideas. Startup or innovation experience is a plus; you enjoy building something new!
