Basic Function HF Sinclair is seeking a Engineering Specialist in Dallas,TX, who will be responsible to provide technical recommendations to support and improve site operations, provide training and education to increase knowledge level of Process Engineers and Production staff, routinely review unit health with site engineers, review KPIs, monitor performance, and identify potential unit deterioration. Key interfaces include site process engineering and site production staff, technology contractors, and catalyst and chemical vendors. Job Duties Provide specific recommendations and actions to support short-term unit operations. Provide specific recommendations to support long-term unit improvements, consistent with economic drivers and reliability of unit operations. Collaborate internally and externally with requests for information, training, and technical expertise related to technology. Review and verify scope of planned and potential capital projects, focusing on technical aspects and assure that performance will align with project objectives. Formal, documented support will be provided on capital projects at the end of FEL1 or FEL2. Assure unit improvements requiring a TA are aligned with unit TA goals. Review and assurance of catalyst selection for technology focus and assist in documenting unit improvements with new catalysts. Follow fixed bed catalyst responsibilities per Catalyst Management Standard. Establish practices and recommend technologies to help sites improve reliability. Stay abreast of evolving technology and best practices and share updates with Technical Networks. Provide support to sites during unit startup, shutdown, or emergency events upon request from leadership. Execute special assignments or tasks assigned by supervisor. Assure unit improvements requiring a TA are aligned with unit TA goals. Review and assurance of catalyst selection for technology focus and assist in documenting unit improvements with new catalysts. Provide mentoring, training and support to increase knowledge of technology focus at all levels of the company. Engage unit engineers with new assignments to assist in onboarding to technology. Coordinate with Process Supervisor group to assist in technology specific training/curriculum for engineer development as available information evolves. Provide shared leadership for Technical Teams. Provide input to team leads on monthly and F2F agendas. Periodically lead monthly technical topic training. Assure unit KPIs are correct for good unit health monitoring (specific to the unit) and limits are set appropriately. Review the unit KPIs each month, discuss unit health and KPIs with unit engineers and supervisors monthly. Document and disseminate key discussion topics and agreed actions. Site visits conducted as needed to provide support for facilities. Generally, one visit per site per year is expected, however, additional visits will be made as needed to support the site. Routine visits, timing, and purpose will be coordinated with unit technical supervisors. The site Technical Managers will also be visited when traveling to sites. Site visits should be documented along with monthly health checks, sharing key discussion topics and agreed actions. Experience A minimum of 10 years of technical experience in the refining industry is required. Preferred Experience Heavy emphasis on crude and vacuum unit operations, crude desalting, crude preheat, general fractionation, and propane/solvent de-asphalting (PDA/SDA/ROSE). Education Level A minimum of a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Required Skills Excel, PowerPoint, Seeq, PI, PARCView, HYSYS and other process simulation software. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility None Work Conditions Office and plant based and may require up to 30% travel. Outdoor duties under wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks and rotating equipment. Subject to random drug testing. Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Engineering Specialist in Dallas,TX, who will be responsible to provide technical recommendations to support and improve site operations, provide training and education to increase knowledge level of Process Engineers and Production staff, routinely review unit health with site engineers, review KPIs, monitor performance, and identify potential unit deterioration. Key interfaces include site process engineering and site production staff, technology contractors, and catalyst and chemical vendors.

Job Duties

  • Provide specific recommendations and actions to support short-term unit operations. Provide specific recommendations to support long-term unit improvements, consistent with economic drivers and reliability of unit operations. Collaborate internally and externally with requests for information, training, and technical expertise related to technology. Review and verify scope of planned and potential capital projects, focusing on technical aspects and assure that performance will align with project objectives. Formal, documented support will be provided on capital projects at the end of FEL1 or FEL2.

  • Assure unit improvements requiring a TA are aligned with unit TA goals. Review and assurance of catalyst selection for technology focus and assist in documenting unit improvements with new catalysts. Follow fixed bed catalyst responsibilities per Catalyst Management Standard. Establish practices and recommend technologies to help sites improve reliability. Stay abreast of evolving technology and best practices and share updates with Technical Networks. Provide support to sites during unit startup, shutdown, or emergency events upon request from leadership. Execute special assignments or tasks assigned by supervisor.

  • Assure unit improvements requiring a TA are aligned with unit TA goals. Provide input to team leads on monthly and F2F agendas. Periodically lead monthly technical topic training.

  • Assure unit KPIs are correct for good unit health monitoring (specific to the unit) and limits are set appropriately. Review the unit KPIs each month, discuss unit health and KPIs with unit engineers and supervisors monthly. Document and disseminate key discussion topics and agreed actions.

  • Site visits conducted as needed to provide support for facilities. Generally, one visit per site per year is expected, however, additional visits will be made as needed to support the site. Routine visits, timing, and purpose will be coordinated with unit technical supervisors. The site Technical Managers will also be visited when traveling to sites. Site visits should be documented along with monthly health checks, sharing key discussion topics and agreed actions.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of technical experience in the refining industry is required.

Preferred Experience

Heavy emphasis on crude and vacuum unit operations, crude desalting, crude preheat, general fractionation, and propane/solvent de-asphalting (PDA/SDA/ROSE).

Education Level

A minimum of a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.

Required Skills

Excel, PowerPoint, Seeq, PI, PARCView, HYSYS and other process simulation software.

None

Work Conditions

Office and plant based and may require up to 30% travel. Outdoor duties under wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. HF Sinclair supplies high-quality fuels to more than 1,500 branded stations and licenses the use of the Sinclair brand at more than 300 additional locations throughout the country. In addition, subsidiaries of HF Sinclair produce and market base oils and other specialized lubricants in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands, and export products to more than 80 countries. Through its subsidiaries, HF Sinclair produces renewable diesel at two of its facilities in Wyoming and also at its facility in Artesia, New Mexico. HF Sinclair provides petroleum product and crude oil transportation, terminalling, storage and throughput services to its refineries and the petroleum industry.
