Position Summary As an intern or co-op, you will have the opportunity to join one of several specialized groups within our Software Engineering department, gaining hands-on experience by performing the same day-to-day responsibilities as a full-time entry-level engineer. These teams include :  The Enterprise Development Team (EDT): Designs and implements software applications, libraries, and database queries that improve business/manufacturing efficiency, management decision making, and other strategic objectives. ERP and/or DevOps experience is a plus but not a requirement. Day-to-day programming involves C#, SQL, and some JavaScript. The Application Development Team (ADT):   Focuses on the applications and front-end features/functionality of Aerotech’s motion control software. This involves both the design and implementation of user interfaces with a focus on user experience, and the coding that interfaces with the lower levels of the software stack. Day-to-day programming involves C# coding and WPF UI development. The Embedded/Motion Development Team (MDT):   Focuses on developing embedded motion, path planning, task scheduling, device driver, and communication algorithms that execute in a real-time operating system and interface with on-board hardware. They develop on a variety of embedded hardware platforms that include ARM and Intel processors. Linux experience is a plus but not a requirement. Successful candidates have experience with C or C++, have experience interfacing with hardware in some way, and have a passion for good software organization/architecture. The Full Stack Development Team (FST): Focuses on the support and infrastructure of all other teams in the software/hardware stack of Automation1. Always on the lookout to help - they are responsible for gluing together the different layers of the software/hardware stack for Automation1. This involves management of the middle software layers, APIs, code-generation, build procedure, and internal tools, as well as implementation at any layer of the stack as needed. Day-to-day programming involves C, C++, and C#. Essential Functions Develops new or modifies existing embedded, enterprise, library, or application level software under the supervision of experienced engineers Debugs software problems involving Aerotech or third-party software products Conducts tests to verify the implementation of new software features and validate use cases Documents and organizes test results for review by senior engineers Note: Internships typically last approximately three (3) months within a single summer. A Lead Engineering Technician shall be capable of independently and collaboratively contributing to the design and development of project plans utilizing their CADD skills and hold the role of Chief Inspector on construction projects. Our Lead Engineering Technicians will typically report to a Project Manager or senior level team member. Additional responsibilities may include materials testing and inspection with concrete and asphalt operations during construction, support to survey crews, and training junior level staff. Qualification Requirements:  High School diploma or equivalent is required. A 2-Year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or a Technical Degree in Drafting, is highly desirable (applicable experience may be accepted) A minimum of 5 years and up to 10 years of experience is preferred with basic civil engineering design and construction inspection principles. Understand and fulfill the role of resident project representative (RPR) and/or owner's representative during construction projects.  Communicate with contractors and effectively deal with difficult and time-sensitive situations. Communicate frequently and effectively with Apex and State/County Agency Project Managers and Project Engineers to inform them of construction progress and potential issues in the field. Document construction progress and quantities in field diaries and input data into automated computer record systems. Attend company, project and client meetings as required either in person or via teleconference and/or remote video conference.  The ability to video conference remotely via computer is essential if working remotely. Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies. Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Participate in training opportunities that will develop communication, technical and organizational skills. Key Responsibilities: Design and generate novel cell-based and biochemical assays as well as associated cell lines for use in functional screening of lead biologics (e.g. reporter assays for specific target signaling). Utilize data analysis tools to evaluate large datasets to inform iterative protein design. Stay updated on advancements in instrumentation, software, and methodologies, currently utilized in high throughput screening and display-based protein engineering. Troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions to optimize lead molecules, ensuring data quality and integrity throughout the discovery and optimization process. Utilize LIMS system and maintain accurate and timely records and meet internal reporting standards. Write and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), perform general laboratory duties, prepare experiment designs and execute data analyses. Required Qualifications: PhD (or equivalent) in bioengineering, biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field. 3+ year industrial drug development experience preferred. 2+ years of experience using generating novel cell lines and/or assay development Experience in utilizing display technologies (yeast/phage) to discover and engineer novel binders and lead molecules of different classes (e.g. Ab, Fab, scFv, VHHs, etc.) Extensive experience in FACS-based selection and sorting Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following workstreams: library design and generation, display-based selection, protein engineering, and assay development Experience with data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, FlowJo,) and statistical analysis of experimental results. Position Summary
As an intern or co-op, you will have the opportunity to join one of several specialized groups within our Software Engineering department, gaining hands-on experience by performing the same day-to-day responsibilities as a full-time entry-level engineer. These teams include

  • The Enterprise Development Team (EDT):
    • Designs and implements software applications, libraries, and database queries that improve business/manufacturing efficiency, management decision making, and other strategic objectives. ERP and/or DevOps experience is a plus but not a requirement. Day-to-day programming involves C#, SQL, and some JavaScript.
  • The Application Development Team (ADT): 
    • Focuses on the applications and front-end features/functionality of Aerotech’s motion control software. This involves both the design and implementation of user interfaces with a focus on user experience, and the coding that interfaces with the lower levels of the software stack. Day-to-day programming involves C# coding and WPF UI development.
  • The Embedded/Motion Development Team (MDT): 
    • Focuses on developing embedded motion, path planning, task scheduling, device driver, and communication algorithms that execute in a real-time operating system and interface with on-board hardware. They develop on a variety of embedded hardware platforms that include ARM and Intel processors. Linux experience is a plus but not a requirement. Successful candidates have experience with C or C++, have experience interfacing with hardware in some way, and have a passion for good software organization/architecture.
  • The Full Stack Development Team (FST):
    • Focuses on the support and infrastructure of all other teams in the software/hardware stack of Automation1. Always on the lookout to help - they are responsible for gluing together the different layers of the software/hardware stack for Automation1. This involves management of the middle software layers, APIs, code-generation, build procedure, and internal tools, as well as implementation at any layer of the stack as needed. Day-to-day programming involves C, C++, and C#.

Essential Functions

  • Develops new or modifies existing embedded, enterprise, library, or application level software under the supervision of experienced engineers
  • Debugs software problems involving Aerotech or third-party software products
  • Conducts tests to verify the implementation of new software features and validate use cases
  • Documents and organizes test results for review by senior engineers
Note: Internships typically last approximately three (3) months within a single summer.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligible students are those currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Science from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or above. 
  • Currently accepting applications for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that plan to attend graduate school, and current Graduate students. 
  • Strong understanding of geometry, basic calculus, and/or data structures preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of an object-oriented (e.g., C++, C#, Java) programming language
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without employer sponsorship.  Aerotech does not provide U.S. work authorization sponsorship for this position.  OPT and CPT visa holders are not eligible for employment if they will need work authorization sponsorship at any time in the future.
