The Equipment Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring reliability, compliance, and operational availability of laboratory equipment across clinical and research environments in adherence to Veracyte's equipment lifecycle management program. The scope of equipment includes a diverse range of assets such as liquid handlers, spectrophotometers, analyzers, and more. The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative spirit and work cross-functionally with teams in Automation, Product Development, Quality, and Clinical Operations. Depending on level, this role ranges from executing technical tasks under guidance, to driving cross-functional initiatives, to leading complex investigations and mentoring members within the Equipment Engineering and Operations team. This is an full-time, on-site role located in South San Francisco, CA. Responsibilities: Support optimization and adherence to the equipment lifecycle program and processes from procurement, installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), calibration, and preventive maintenance to decommissioning. Independently manage equipment systems, including internal investigations and service coordination, documentation, and continuous improvement related to equipment performance. Troubleshoot and support root cause investigations for equipment failures and implement correct actions. Support cross-functional efforts related to new equipment onboarding, equipment relocations, obsolescence planning, and lab expansions. Coordinate maintenance, calibration, verification, and qualification activities across internal stakeholders (R&D and CLIA) and external service vendors to minimize impact on lab workflows while ensuring regulatory compliance. Maintain accurate and compliant documentation for all equipment-related activities, support audits, inspections, and internal reviews. Support development of equipment maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and increase overall equipment reliability. Support investigations as SME in NCR's and CAPA's as needed. Support development and authoring equipment specifications, user requirements, and IQ/OQ protocols. Support equipment qualification activities. Ensure all equipment and processes meet quality and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, IVD, and/or FDA regulations). Adhere to procedures and policies outlined within Veracyte's quality management system. Who You Are: 4-6 years of related experience with a BS/BA or higher degree (2-4 yrs with a Masters Degree) in an Engineering field or equivalent work experience. 4-6 years of hands-on experience in equipment engineering or reliability engineering within a highly regulated environment. 4-6 years of experience developing/writing equipment qualification plans, calibration strategies, and maintenance & operation procedures. Familiarity with lab instrumentation, preventive maintenance, and calibration standards. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues and drive resolution independently or collaboratively. Proficient with common software tools (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Suite). Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally. Excellent time management skills to support a fast-paced working environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with sequencing assays and automation platforms. Familiarity with CMMS (BMRAM, Limble, EAM, SAP) and LIMS integration. Working knowledge of root cause analysis tools (e.g. 5 whys, fishbone, FMEA) and reliability principles. Experience with Six Sigma principals, SSGB or other reliability certification a significant plus. #LI-Onsite The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. As the Principal Engineering Program Manager at Astera Labs you will lead all activities required for development, qualification, NPI and RTM (release to manufacturing) of Astera Labs' ASIC products. This is a high-impact position that is directly responsible for successful execution of critical revenue goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the point of contact within Astera for all matters relating to ASIC programs.
  • Own the on-time, on-spec, on-budget and with high-quality delivery of ASIC products from concept through production (architecture, RTL design, verification, physical design, tapeout, validation, customer evaluation, qualification, RTM).
  • Program planning, schedules, budgeting, risk assessment, resource planning and management, and tracking related program activities.
  • Review, disposition and communicate changes in scope / schedule / expense.
  • Conduct regular meetings to ensure cross-functional teams are clear on expectations, and problem-solving actions are in place to address issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain adequate technical depth and managerial skill to address program and product issues.
  • Be the champion of your programs and maintain management and key stakeholder alignment.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.
  • Actively contribute to organizational development and process improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors' or Masters' Degree in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • 10 or more years of relevant ASIC product experience in an electronics product or semiconductor company
  • Proficiency in ASIC development workflow including hands-on experience in one or more the following domains: Digital design/RTL, DSP or Physical Design
  • Experience in solving technical problems in pre-silicon or post-silicon environment
  • 5 or more years of experience as an ASIC Program Manager is a plus
  • Experience building new ASIC products in advanced technology nodes (
  • Experience working on ASICs for PCI-E, memory or data communication products is a plus
  • Technical appreciation of ASIC engineering flows (front end and backend development processes, product and test engineering, char and validation, hardware/firmware/software design)
  • Program management and analytical skills, ability to organize information for internal and external consumption
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Atlassian Tools and JIRA Scrum Methodologies as well as using work breakdown structure to identify objectives and milestones is a plus
  • Able to motivate and energize teams and lead by influence in a matrixed organization
  • Able to take timely decisions with limited or incomplete information
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to keep calm and make progress in high stress situations
  • Ability to travel to Astera Labs' sites as required
