Job Description

To support the implementation of automated material handling equipment into our distribution centers. Typical equipment includes: conveyor, carton / tote sortation, unit picking, unit sortation, case shuttle storage systems. The automation engineering team supports our operations teams at our more automated distribution sites across multiple project phases: design, implementation, testing, go-live, and post go-live.

Responsibilities

  • Provides equipment layout and function expert advice to our design and operations teams.
  • Calculates equipment rates and targeted performance
  • Supports equipment punchlisting and rate testing
  • Supports warehouse control / execution system software design and test
  • Supports and educates the operations team on how to use the new equipment
  • Performs data analysis of equipment rates and errors
  • Supports the operations team to implement equipment maintenance agreements
  • Develops productivity estimates for processes that interface with material handling equipment

Key Skills:

  • Prior experience implementing automated unit / case handling equipment
  • PLC equipment control
  • CAD for equipment layout
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Project management
  • Warehouse control systems (WCS)
  • Warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • Barcoding
  • Data analysis using excel, access, SQL, power BI
  • MOST / MTM labor modeling
  • Great organizational skills
  • Experience with new distribution center start-ups

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years equivalent work experience, required
  • 3+ years experience in Engineering, required
  • 1+ years experience in distribution, logistics, project management, required
  • Embraces change and challenges as opportunities for growth
  • Can read a JDA flowchart and understand how productivity rates are calculated
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD and making layout changes, adding layers as needed
  • Mastered slotting and pick path knowledge to layout and active pick area
  • Fully understands layout needs based on equipment being used (i.e. aisle widths and MHE used)
  • Proficient at optimizing and automated layouts
  • Effectively project manage a large-scale project
  • Comfortable communicating projects and their impacts to the customer
  • Proficient in presenting and the ability to hold teams accountable to actions
  • Knowledge of site KPI's and frequently reviews KPI's to identify areas of opportunity
  • Proficient in CI and identifying waste within an operation
  • Actively seeks out challenges
  • Capable of identifying, analyzing, and solutioning a problem
  • Up to date on industry or external factorsto generate new and innovative ideas
  • Leads with vulnerability and readily admits mistakes but demonstrates resiliance
