Blockworks logo
BlockworksNew York, NY
About Us: Blockworks is an information platform that sits at the center of the crypto industry. We transform raw, complex data and facts into actionable research, trusted alpha-driven insights, and world-class events. The result is transparency and confidence. We enable investors, operators, and institutions to see past the noise, make better decisions, and drive the industry forward. Who You Are: You're a proven engineering leader with deep technical instincts, a bias for action and a track record for building exceptional teams and systems that scale. You thrive in fast-moving environments where ambiguity is the norm, and you know how to lead with clarity, context, and momentum. You hold strong opinions about what great engineering looks like, but you're humble and instructive in how you apply them. You care deeply about the people behind the code, and you believe that performance, quality, and speed are unlocked through high trust, great process, and shared ownership. You've led remote teams, built engineering cultures that last, and know how to balance velocity with reliability. You're pragmatic, comfortable with ambiguity, and thrive in environments where experimentation is the norm. You care deeply about culture and believe great engineering comes from ownership, collaboration, and process, not bureaucracy. What You'll Do: As our VP of Engineering, you'll partner with leaders across the organization, including our CTO and VP of Product to lead evolution of Blockworks' engineering organization. You'll own the teams, the systems, and the culture that turns ambitious ideas into trusted products at scale. You'll be directly responsible ensuring the engineering teams across backend, frontend, data, and infrastructure can deliver products that our customers rely on every day. From institutional-grade research tools to petabyte-scale blockchain data warehouses, you and your team will be the technical expertise making it come to life. Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like: Lead and Scale a High-Trust Engineering Org: You'll hire, coach, and retain world-class engineers across our platform, data, and product teams, creating and leading the environment and rituals that unlock their best work. Own the Technical Roadmap and Architecture: You'll ensure our systems are secure, reliable, and built to scale, collaborating closely with our CTO on key architectural decisions that power our SaaS offerings and data products. Build Quality Systems That Ship Quickly (and Scale): You'll translate complex problems into elegant, repeatable engineering solutions that allow us to move fast without accruing technical debt or sacrificing quality. Shape the Culture of Engineering Excellence: You'll set the tone for how the Engineering team works; driving strong execution, healthy debate, thoughtful documentation, exceptional internal support and and shared ownership from individual contributors to leaders. Partner Deeply with Product and Data: You'll work side-by-side with our CTO, VP of Product, Head of Data, and other organizational leaders to define what we build, how we build it, and how we deliver with speed, transparency, and clarity. Be a Force-Multiplier Across the Business: You'll collaborate with leaders across Product, Research, Sales, Finance, and Ops to align on priorities, communicate tradeoffs, and bring transparency to technical workflows and decision-making. Elevate Technical Rigor Across Blockworks: You'll bring engineering excellence to all corners of the business, including identifying internal bottlenecks, automating workflows, and helping instill a culture of performance improvement and continuous learning. Experimentation is frequent at Blockworks. Comfortability with being uncomfortable is a must. What You've Done Before: You've led engineering teams at high-growth startups before and successfully scaled the organization. You have at least 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a multi-unit leadership role like a Director or VP, and you've demonstrated the ability to ship product at scale while maintaining reliability and performance. You have demonstrated success shipping complex products, building APIs and platforms, and understand modern data architectures and infrastructure in data-heavy SaaS products. You're at home proactively partnering with product and business teams to navigate tradeoffs and drive outcomes, not just output. You've successfully operated in remote and async cultures and know how to build velocity without micromanagement. You've managed through growth, hired and onboarded senior technical talent, and built structures that balance autonomy with alignment. It'd Be Great If You've Done This: You've worked in or around crypto, financial infrastructure, or petabyte-scale data environments, and you're excited by the complexity and possibility that blockchain data brings. You've built teams from scratch, mentored engineering managers, and helped organizations scale from "scrappy" to "scalable" without losing their soul. If you've worked closely with founders, balanced speed with systems thinking, and know how to inspire trust in both technical and non-technical stakeholders, you'll thrive here. Salary, Benefits, & How We Work: This is a full time exempt position with an expected salary of $285,000/year. Benefits: Remote-First: We're a remote-first organization with an office in NYC for you to utilize as you please. 100% Medical Coverage for You: Close to fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and a significant portion covered for your dependents.
