Description

Why This Role Matters

Our technology powers a business that helps thousands of entrepreneurs grow their income and change their lives. And we're at a pivotal moment: transforming how we build software, how fast we deliver it, and how we engage and grow the people who make it happen.

We're looking for a Senior Manager of Software Engineering who wants to lead not just code output, but people, culture, and progress. Someone who sees engineering leadership as a craft and takes pride in raising the bar for delivery, innovation, and team health.

If you're energized by developing people, shaping engineering practices, and positioning a team to operate like a world-class organization, this role gives you the ownership, visibility, and influence to make it happen.

What You'll Lead

  • A blended team of about 14 engineers (7 full-time employees and 7 contractors) with room to shape, coach, and grow the group
  • Ownership of delivery outcomes, with true end-to-end accountability for results
  • Engineering excellence across quality, performance, security, operations, and delivery
  • A culture centered around autonomy with accountability, learning, and continuous improvement
  • Cross-functional impact alongside Product, Architecture, and Business leaders

What Success Looks Like

  • Meaningful acceleration of delivery velocity and predictability
  • Higher engagement scores and a culture of ownership and craftsmanship
  • Visible innovation in ideas, prototypes, and shipped value
  • Strong collaboration patterns across teams, not just within yours
  • A recognized leadership brand across the organization

Our Tech Stack

We're evolving our technology toward a modern, modular, and scalable ecosystem. Our current environment includes:

  • Frontend: Angular, React, TypeScript, and Next.js
  • Backend: Node.js and Java (legacy services), and REST APIs
  • Eventing and Messaging: Kafka
  • Cloud and Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, S3, CloudFormation, and Lambda)
  • CI/CD and Tooling: Jenkins, Bitbucket, Jira, Dynatrace, Snyk, and AI-assisted development tools
  • E-commerce Platform: A composable microservices architecture with Hybris still powering select core services

We're modernizing from a monolithic legacy platform toward a flexible, event-driven, and composable architecture. You'll play a direct role in shaping this transformation.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • You get real ownership, shaping how engineering operates
  • You'll build something, not maintain something, in an active transformation phase
  • Clear runway for growth
  • You'll lead people, practices, and progress, not just ceremonies and reporting
  • You'll help define what "world-class engineering" means here and build toward it
  • You'll work with leaders who want your voice, not just your status updates

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Proven success leading high-performing engineering teams (7-15 engineers ideal range)
  • A track record improving delivery velocity, quality, or engineering culture
  • Experience coaching and developing engineers, including mid-level and senior roles
  • Ability to partner with Product while still owning delivery
  • Strategic thinking without losing execution discipline
  • A self-starter who identifies and solves problems proactively

Career Path

This role is intentionally scoped and positioned to grow in the next few years for the right leader. You'll be given increasing ownership, visibility, and responsibility as you demonstrate impact.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position starts at $160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for performance-based bonus based on individual and company performance.

This position includes a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance with additional voluntary coverage options
  • Disability insurance
  • Additional voluntary benefits
  • 401k match
  • Flex PTO
  • Paid Parental leave
  • 30%+ discount on Pampered Chef Products and product giveaways

Pampered Chef currently follows a hybrid schedule at the headquartered office in Addison, IL. The expectation is for employees to be in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week. We believe leadership is relational, not just transactional, and being together matters.
