Job Description

Who we are

At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.

We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the role

As the Director of Platform Engineering at Fortis Games, you will own the strategy, delivery, and evolution of our unified, game-agnostic platform that powers real-time personalization, analytics, and event-driven features for millions of players. Over your first 12 months, your core outcome will be to deliver a scalable, self-service platform that supports 100M+ players with sub-100ms ingestion latency, enabling game teams to ship features faster without backend friction. You will lead the Platform Engineering group — spanning data ingestion, analytics SDKs, pipelines, ML tooling, and visualization layers — ensuring our infrastructure is reliable, cost-efficient, and invisible to most developers while delivering best-in-class developer experience. You will be a key leader, working closely with game teams, product managers, and executive leadership to translate business objectives into scalable platform solutions.

What you’ll achieve

  • Lead and grow a high-performing Platform Engineering team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and player-first thinking.
  • Define and execute the 3-year platform vision and 12-month delivery plan, ensuring alignment with company-wide priorities.
  • Partner with Product, Game Development, and Analytics teams to ensure the platform meets evolving game and player needs.
  • Drive architectural decisions for large-scale, real-time data processing, integrating tools such as Redpanda, Flink, ClickHouse, and Iceberg.
  • Establish and track key platform metrics, including uptime, ingestion latency, developer onboarding time, and cost per million events.
  • Automate operational workflows and remove manual bottlenecks, ensuring the team spends its time on high-value design and decision-making.
  • Maintain strong SLOs for reliability, scalability, and developer experience, while championing adoption across all Fortis studios to ensure seamless integration for new and existing games.
  • Drive efforts to ensure data privacy, protection, and compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies across all data initiatives at Fortis.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams that build and operate large-scale, real-time or near-real-time platforms.
  • Expertise in distributed data processing and storage systems, including experience with pub/sub messaging platforms (Kafka, Redpanda, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of developer experience, self-service architectures, and platform-as-a-product thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to align long-term architecture vision with immediate delivery milestones.
  • Exceptional communication skills to influence cross-functional stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing complex trade-offs between performance, cost, and speed of delivery.
  • Background in building scalable cloud-native platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and integrating modern analytics stacks.
  • Prior experience with and knowledge of data privacy and compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Why join us

There are many reasons to join us, but here are a few:

  • We strongly believe we are changing how games studios operate and at the core of what we do is making great games that create a connected community
  • We're not just about making Games Where You Belong. We're also about building communities where our people belong. That's why Fortis is a thriving environment that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusivity, and fosters growth.
  • Build and grow with a seasoned team of accomplished talent who have left an impactful mark in their disciplines, both in and out of gaming

Fortis is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by applicable law, and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
